Shelter Dog Perfects His Bed, Dreams of a Family to Call His Own

Enduring life in a shelter can be disheartening, particularly for a sociable and loving dog like Rush. A charming Pittie, Rush was first found as a stray and taken to the SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center in Dayton, Ohio. After a brief adoption, he was, regrettably, returned. Since then, he has been yearning for a family to call his own. His intense longing for a forever home drove him to do something remarkable! Rush’s life in the shelter, lacking a permanent family, was undeniably challenging. Each visitor to the shelter lifted his spirits, but they often plummeted when they chose another dog.

Despite these setbacks, Rush kept a positive attitude, challenging the common misconceptions about Pitties. In an unprecedented move, he began to arrange his bed. Taking a sheet in his mouth, he meticulously made his bed, making it appear cozy and welcoming. The SICSA volunteers were amazed by Rush’s endearing behavior.

Leah, one of the volunteers, recorded a video of Rush in action, and it swiftly became a sensation online. The video resonated with people across the globe, drawing warm reactions and softening hearts everywhere. Rush’s bed-making routine became a part of his daily life, which eventually led to a significant turn of events. The viral video was instrumental in drawing attention to Rush, resulting in a surge of adoption requests.

Among those who applied were a Dayton couple, Angie and Ronnie Wallace. The SICSA staff were particularly fond of them. The Wallaces had recently grieved the loss of their dog to an illness and hadn’t thought about adopting again. However, Rush’s video swayed their decision.

Ronnie remembers the moment: “She said ‘I think I want him,’ and I agreed.”

Upon meeting Rush at the facility, there was an instant bond. Rush warmly welcomed his new family, eager to finally leave his shelter life behind. In spite of his joy in finding a home, Rush always remembered where he came from.
